China's largest containerboard producer by capacity, Nine Dragons (ND) Paper plans six new board machines in the next three years — including what would be the largest board PM in Vietnam. The move into Vietnam would be Nine Dragons' largest expansion outside China. Nine Dragons plans a 350,000 tonnes/yr PM in Vietnam before the end of 2016 as part of a $180 million project. Nine Dragons did not identify a mill site. "Vietnam is a fast growing emerging paper market in Asia," said RISI economist for recovered paper Hannah Zhao this week."Vietnam has a lower cost for labor and for raw materials such as virgin fiber, and high availability of virgin fiber compared to China."
