Financial assistance that Newfoundland's provincial government is giving Kruger's Corner Brook pulp and paper mill will total C$110 million, not the previously reported C$90 million. Confirming the figure Oct. 9, a government minister said C$90 million was allocated in this year's budget, but "we never said it was a C$90 million loan." Premier Kathy Dunderdale told The Telegram newspaper that details weren't publicized to avoid putting "undue pressure on the unions in terms of their discussion with Comer Brook Pulp and Paper." The last of Corner Brook's eight union locals, Local 495 of Unifor Canada (formerly, the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union), ratified a new labor deal Oct. 4.
