As NBSK $930/tonne increase level arrives, US buyers ready for battle

For next week's Apr. 1 $30/tonne price increase on bleached softwood kraft (BSK) market pulp in the USA, buyers believe there are cracks in pricing momentum and they will be able to at least force a second phased-in BSK hike. Buyers believe in their negotiating position because producer stocks of BSK are still above levels analysts consider balanced, there's little price-increase traction in US spot markets, there's a gap widening between domestic prices and those offshore, and a March increase in China was only being partly implemented. A $30/tonne BSK increase in the USA also was pushed through over two months in January and February.
