European producers hike kraftliner prices by E40-60 in face of weak economy

Smurfit Kappa Group (SKG's) this week followed several other European producers in hiking kraft linerboard prices across the region by Euro 50/tonne for Sept. 1, but took the additional step of raising recycled containerboard prices by Euro 100/tonne. The largest European producer said that 'the global supply situation remains very tight' for kraft linerboard grades and that the increase on recycled containerboard was necessary to restore margins 'after recent drops in prices and supported by a better than expected demand.'
