OCC prices jump around -- with exports to China up $10, for first time in five months, domestic level continues drop

In an odd zig-zag, pricing for US exported old corrugated containers (OCC) in China rose about $8-10 this week ending a five-month $60 decline even though US mill pricing for the material was reported as down by $12-15/ton again this month. The export OCC price rose from about $170/tonne in the last week of August to $175-178 yesterday delivered to a main port in China, contacts said. Still, the export pricing at the start of September on the grade was down $7 from the start of August level, according to PPI Pulp & Paper Week.
