DunkirV Donuts leans toward PE as foam cup transition plan nears

As part of its latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report, Dunkin' Brands Group, the parent of coffee and food retailer Dunkin' Donuts, said it would establish a phased implementation plan and timeline for transitioning from polystyrene foam hot cups by the end of 2015. While the company said it is testing a double-walled paper cup as well as a #5 recyclable polypropylene (PE) cup in limited markets, it said in the CSR the PE cups "are the best available alternative to foam." It said it had an issue with the non-recyclable lid and would "continue to evaluate and test all available cups until we believe we have found the best solution based on cost, performance, commercial viability and environmental impacts."
