Mill data update adjusts Graphic's CRB position after Cascades acquisition

Graphic Packaging's (GPK) $39 million acquisition of Cascades/Norampac's box-board mills and converting assets boosts its market share of US-Canada coated recycled paperboard (CRB) capacity to about 41.6%, according to R!SI estimates. A previous report in PPI Pulp & Paper Week said GPK's share would rise to more than 45% of CRB, but Cascades informed RISI the Jonquiere, QC, mill makes only a hybrid virgin boxboard that includes a recycled substrate, with capacity of 159,000 tons/yr (P&PW, Dec. 12, p. 1). Cascades also said its East Angus, QC, mill has CRB capacity of 79,000 tons/yr on one machine.
