摘要

Slow and unpredictable railroad service due to the severe winter weather in the first quarter of 2014 is starting to improve, according to several speakers at the North American Rail Shippers Assn annual meeting in San Francisco in late May. But the weather-induced crisis was preceded by changing North American rail traffic patterns, mainly the ascent of hydraulic fracturing, known as tracking, and the related frac sand, equipment, and crude oil being carried by freight trains.
