Largest- and fastest-ever US build in tissue paper capacity is beginning with eight PMs to start in the next six months

In what stands to be the fastest and largest ever capacity build in the US tissue paper industry in at least the last 40 years, the first two of eight new or upgraded machines are readying for startup, with White Mountain Tissue close on running a new 36,000 tons/yr PM in Gorham, NH, and ST Tissue nearer startup of a new 70,000 tons/yr one in Franklin, VA. Further, four more PMs are to start humming by yearend, with Clearwater's 70,000 tons/yr through-air-dried (TAD) machine in Shelby, NC, First Quality Tissue's 70,000 tons/yr TAD in Anderson, SC, and Wausau Paper's new ATMOS recycled content-furnish 75,000 tons/yr PM in Harrodsburg, KY. Georgia-Pacific (G-P) also is expected to be running an upgraded 35,000 tons/yr PM with TAD-like special proprietary technology at its Port Hudson, LA, operation by yearend, but company officials issued no comment. The Wausau ATMOS by Voith will be the fifth of its kind installed in the world and third in North America, just in front of an SCA PM upgraded with ATMOS in Menasha, WI, that may be finished by yearend.
