Shipments jump by 13% last month, World-20's inventory falls three days

Increased shipments globally of market pulp, especially for bleached hardwood kraft (BHK) and bleached eucalyptus (BEK), spurred a three-day decline in inventory for World-20 Chemical Market Pulp producers, the Pulp and Paper Products Council (PPPC) reported today. Shipments jumped up by 13% and 436,000 tonnes last month vs August's total, and totaled 3.84 million tonnes - the second highest so far this year to March's 4.0 million tonnes. Almost half the increase went to China, which significantly grew demand last month by 21% sequentially following about a $60 fall in northern bleached softwood kraft pricing to China in August. Most of the rest of the shipment growth was in North America and Western Europe.
