Despite still-rising input costs, Domtar, MeadWestvaco turn out record earnings - while keeping careful watch

Able to partly sidestep surging raw material costs, two of North America's largest five pulp and paper companies — Domtar and MeadWestvaco (MWV) - reported record first quarter earnings. Domtar did it behind its large, No. 1 capacity share in market pulp as well as increased paper shipments. MWV did it in a global way, with sales in the first quarter up 24% in emerg-ing markets, such as China and Brazil, and representing 28% of total revenue.
