Cosmopolis mill acquired by Gores; restart planned

Private equity firm The Gores Group yesterday said it led an investor group that acquired Weyerhaeuser's Cosmopolis, WA, dissolving pulp (DP) mill for undisclosed terms, setting the stage for the long-shuttered facility to restart. The 140,000 tonnes/ yr mill, which made viscose and acetate DP before idling in 2006, will begin refurbishment and restart efforts, and operate as Cosmo Specialty Fibers.
