After 22 straight quarters of unprofitable operations dating back to 2005, Canadian forest products and pulp and paper companies finally turned a profit, on average, in the second quarter. As with their US counterparts, many pointed to firmer pricing and higher volumes as major factors in their improvement. Unlike their competitors in the US, however, Canadian companies did it in the face of a decidedly uncooperative currency.
