Viscose staple fiber prices soar 50% in China; producers run mills flat out to meet demand from rayon producers

Spot viscose staple fiber (VSF) dissolving pulp prices have staged a strong recovery in China in the last three or four months on a surge in demand from rayon producers. Prices for 91 alpha VSF pulp have jumped 50% to around the $900/tonne level, from the recent low of $600/tonne in the first quarter, according to contacts.
