Domtar to close large PM,sheeter at Plymouth mill

Continuing a rationalization of uncoated freesheet(UFS)paper production,Domtar will permanently close the larger of two paper machines and a sheeter at its Plymouth,NC,mill by the end of February,cutting 293,000 tons/yr of capacity.The shutdown of PM 5,a Bel-Baie unit installed in 1976 and rebuilt in 1991,is due to"adverse economic conditions and the decline of fine paper orders,"the company said.The remaining PM 4,a fourdrinier installed in 1965 and rebuilt in 1995,runs on capacity of 199,000 tons/yr.
