Despite growing newsprint production curtailments in North America and a 25/tonne Sept. 1 price hike announced by most suppliers, US newsprint prices continued to trend down this month, sources said last week. While some supplier contacts said guardedly that it was "still early days" for the price increase and it was still possible in October, most suppliers and buyers acknowledged that prices in September declined "at least 5/tonne" and some said the decline was "closer to 10/tonne."
