Wal-Mart calls for 5% cut in packaging along with 3.4 billion in savings in 2008

Wal-Mart-the world's largest grocery and retail store operator with more than 285 billion in annual sales and 6,600 stores globally-threw down a challenge at suppliers last week,calling for 5% reductions starting in 2008 of the packaging it uses as well as greater use of so-called environmentally-friendly packaging.
