US paper industry exports and imports notch lower in 1Q

US global pulp, paper and paperboard exports and imports were both lower from a year ago in the first quarter, with a resulting trade surplus also down from 2014, according to Census Bureau data summarized by the American Forest & Paper Association. Total exports of 9.85 million tonnes at the end of March were down 3.6% with value of $6.06 billion, down 2.6% from 2014. Imports of 4.4 million tonnes were 2.3% lower with value of $4.8 billion, up 0.1%.
