Clearwater sees big benefit from digester switch at Lewiston; starts $160 million project next month

Clearwater Paper will start work next month on a $160 million almost two-year project to install a continuous pulp digester that will replace 12 batch digesters at its largest mill in Lewiston, ID. The continuous digester is expected to dramatically help the company reduce open market pulp purchases and reduce production costs, which are both keys for the firm that is working to increase EBITDA in its consumer products tissue business, company leaders said late this week.
