Pressured by high trucking and fuel costs,Sonoco is implementing a fuel surcharge for transporting recovered paper in the USA and Canada.Sonoco's surcharge is one of only a couple that have been publicly announced for the domestic market for raw materials.Tembec plans a dissolving pulp surcharge starting Oct.1 and Buckeye Technologies started one on July 1.Most surcharges are for paper or board end products,such as newsprint,uncoated freesheet,or recycled boxboard.These surcharges focus primarily on energy,gas,and chemicals costs,rather than specifically for recovered paper.
