Domtar makes first move on UFS capacity,permanently shutting 285,000 tons amid North American demand dip

With an ongoing drop in North American uncoated freesheet(UFS)demand,Domtar last week announced the first of what is believed to be several paper capacity changes after its merger with Weyerhaeueser's fine papers business,permanently closing 285,000 tons of paper capacity.Much of the capacity is already indefinately idled so the actual amount of newly-shut capacity is 35,000 to 45,000 tons/yr or about 0.4% of estimated North American UFS demand this year.
