Aracruz plans expansion,eyes lower production costs

Building up on its low cash cost position,major global market pulp producer Aracruz is moving ahead with a new 1.3-million mtpy eucalyptus pulp line planned near its Guaiba mill in southern Brazil,company officials said this month.The company wants the new line on-stream between 2010 and 2013.Environmental permits are being circulated and land has been purchased near the Guaiba mill site,the company said.While no immediate details were given,an expansion project for the Veracel pulp mill is also being studied.The mill has among the lowest cash costs in the world at less than 200/tonne.With Veracel,Aracruz has a 50:50 joint venture with Stora Enso.
