IP to close Terre Haute mill due to high cost and to offset Pensacola liner conversion

The answer to whether International Paper (IP) will close capacity to offset its Pensacola,FL,mill conversion to lightweight unbleached kraft linerboard came last week with the announcement the company will permanently shut its 200,000 ton/yr semichemical corrugating medium mill in Terre,Haute,IN,in the fourth quarter this year."We have been thoroughly studying options for the Terre Haute mill over the last two years," said IP containerboard division VP and gen mgr Dennis Colley,in a release."The mill's relatively small size and high manufacturing costs hindered its long-term competitiveness,and ultimately have led to our decision to close it."
