From Weyco,Domtar to significantly grow back its market pulp position,becoming second largest producer by capacity

A major shuffling of the deck is underway in the North American market pulp industry after the Aug.23 announced merger between Weyerhaeuser's fine paper and some pulp operations with Domtar.The deal,which should be completed in the first quarter of 2007,catapults Domtar to the No.2 slot with market pulp capacity of 1.513 million tonnes(P&PW,Aug.28,p.1).For Montreal-headquartered Domtar,the deal emphasizes its focus on papers such as uncoated freesheet and for its pulp division represents an about-face from two years ago,when its open market sales were reduced in favor of integration.
