World newsprint demand is gradually recovering from its 2005 slump and will likely grow 2% next year and 3.5% in 2008,economist Beth Lis forecast on Oct.6 in a presentation at the 21st RISI North American Forest Product Conference in Boston.Lis,who is RISI's v.p.for Asian paper and packaging,said Asia would drive the rebound and every region would show gains apart from North America-where demand would remain on a downward track due to declining newspaper circulation,lower basis weights,reduced web widths,and loss of advertising lineage.
