US paper and paperboard production in December at 6.5 million tons was better than November's 6.4 million, according to American Forest & Paper Association statistics. That put total production for 2015 at 79.0 million tons, down 1% vs the 2014 total. Five main grades produced more in December 2015 than in December 2014. They were unbleached kraft folding boxboard (217,000 tons in December 2015 vs 211,000 tons in December 2014), uncoated freesheet paper (669,000 vs 665,000), liquid packaging and food service boxboard (266,000 vs 263,000), recycled folding boxboard (172,000 vs 169,000), and coated freesheet paper (288,000 tons vs 286,000).
