OCC export price 'rocket' to China crashes, while domestic run rides on with broadest rise in two years

A more than three-month pricing run-up on export old corrugated containers (OCC) skidded to a hard stop recently, but domestic US mill levels continued increasing in the broadest pickup in 214 years. OCC for US mills increased $10/ton at the FOB seller's dock in the New York/Northeast, Chicago/Midwest, and Los Angeles/San Francisco regions, and increased $5 in the Atlanta/ Southeast and Pacific Northwest, as of July 7 vs June 5 levels. The only region not to rise in price was the Dallas-Houston/Southwest section, although there was talk of several needy mills and Mexico's price was up "a few dollars," one supplier maintained.
