Cargo shipping freight rates declined 9% to 12% in the third quarter while seven out of 10 large container lines reported increased cargo, Drewry Maritime reported. The volume-gainers in the third quarter (vs third quarter 2012) were CMA CGM, which increase volume by 11%, Maersk (up 9.5%), Hapag-Lloyd (up 8.7%), Cosco (up 7.8%) and Hanjin (up 5.8%). Also, MOL and NYK increased cargo volume by 2.3% and 1.3%, respectively, according to Drewry. Three shippers reported reduced cargo volume in the quarter: KLine, down 6.3), APL down 5.4%, and OOCL, down 0.9%. APL, OOCL gain. Drewry reported that APL and OOCL held the largest market share on the transpacific route with shares of 29% and 24%, respectively.
