Domestic newsprint shipments fall mere 1% for 2012 but exports plunge 24%, leading to overall 8% drop

Total North American newsprint shipments in December fell 7.0% and for 2012 as a whole were down 8.4% from the previous year at 6.72 million tonnes. Domestic shipments declined a mere 1% during the year and the biggest driver for the 619,000-tonne annual decline was a 24.2% drop in exports.
