Western newsprint mills launch $15/tonne Sept. 1 increases that would end US East-West pricing gap

Six North American newsprint producers that account for 100% of West Coast newsprint production launched $15/tonne Sept. 1 price increases this week within 48 hours of each other for the US West. If successfully implemented, the hike would level up pricing in eastern and western markets. Weyerhaeuser's North Pacific Paper (Norpac) first set the $15/tonne increase, and SP Fiber Technologies, Howe Sound Pulp and Paper, and Inland Empire Paper quickly came out with their own hikes.
