OCC exports increase again -- up $25 in the last month -- and stay on a run

China's demand for US recovered paper continued on an upswing from the end of last month after a threatened port strike in the East led to a price increase on old corrugated containers (OCC) - the first one in five months. Since the last week of August, the price run is $25: from $I70/tonne to a main port in China to at least $195 yesterday, as well as a few suppliers claiming $200. A couple of major US suppliers expect levels will rise another $5 early next week while the National Holiday weeklong celebration is on in mainland China through Oct. 7.
