US producers ask for protective tariffs against virtually every major offshore supplier of cut size and folio uncoated freesheet
On Wednesday, January 21, four major US producers of uncoated freesheet and the United Steelworker's Union (USW) filed a case against China, Indonesia, Brazil, Portugal and Australia for illegal trade practices. They allege that the offshore producers from China and Indonesia are benefitting from subsidized production, primarily subsidies on mill investments, and should be slapped with a countervailing duty (CVD) to offset this subsidy. They also allege that all of the offshore suppliers are dumping into the US market, which would warrant an anti-dumping duty (ADD).
