DOMTAR HAS ONCE again come to the forefront of innovation as it officially opened the first commercial installation of Metso's LignoBoost technology at its Plymouth, NC, mill. Domtar will use the innovation as a platform for building a new bio-based product portfolio. First developed by mnventia in Sweden, Metso purchased the technology in 2008 and expanded the pilot plant in Backhammars, Sweden (PPI, January 2012). Domtar is calling the product BioChoice? Lig-nin and is currently being used for internal fuel and external sales. It is made from lignin with a high solids content that is taken from a pulp mill's evaporators.
