SAICA'S PM 10 IS OFF TO A FLYING START

It may have been a great day for the Irish,but March 17,2006,probably found some Spaniards celebrating a little bit harder.For it was on St.Patrick's Day this year that Sociedad Anonima Industrias Celulosa Aragonesa,better known as SAICA,wound its first paper onto the reel on its new PM 10.Basis weight at startup was 90 g/m2 and machine speed was 1,030 m/min.Saleable paper has been produced since March 21,two months ahead of schedule.PM 10 is designed to produce lightweight testliner and fluting in a basis weight range of 65-175 g/m2.Design speed of the Voith supplied paper machine is 1,800 m/min.When up to full capacity,PM 10 will be able to produce 400,000 tonnes/yr.By late September 2006,the machine was running at 90% capacity.The main basis weight range since startup has been 90-120 g/m2.
