CMPC is to pump 1.5 billion into its operations between 2004-2008.The cash will be spent in all areas of the forest products giant's operations, from planting more trees in the south of Chile to a new tissue PM for its Talagante mill, southwest of the country's capital. The new 780,000 tonne/yr bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp line for CMPC's Santa Fe mill near Nacimiento will swallow up half the budget. With its 745 million price tag, fiber line #2 is by far the most expensive item on the firm's list of investments. The pulp line is penciled in for startup in September 2006 and a spokesman indicated that much of its output would go toward meeting growing demand from China.
