NEWSPRINT PROJECT TO GO AHEAD

The Belarusian government has decided to stump up 100 million to build a greenfield newsprint mill in Shklov,in the Mogilev region of Belarus.The country's rulers had hoped to secure foreign backing for the project,but talks with potential Finnish,Iranian and Russian investors collapsed before any deal was made.The original plan was for a 200,000 tonne/yr plant,which would satisfy the 40,000 tonne/yr domestic newsprint demand,with the remainder to go for export.
