Improving corporate responsibility reporting

The positive response to WWF International's recent report on corporate responsibility reporting (see PPI This Week,vol.19,no.13)has indicated how important the issue is for the industry.We looked at the environment,sustainability or corporate sustain-ability reports produced by the top 46 pulp and paper companies in Europe.While there are some genuine attempts at reporting,unfortunately most companies do not report their performance on sustainability aspects.In addition the huge variation in the scope and quality of these reports makes the identification of the leading companies and the comparison of environmental and social performance virtually impossible.
