PRODUCTION/CAPACITY.Kraft paper market has been in a long-run declining trend mainly due to competition from plastic packaging.US shipments of kraft papers(unbleached and bleached)have declined from a peak of around 5.0 million tons in the early 1970s to just under 1.6 million tons in 2005-2006.Producers have responded to the decline by shutting down machines or converting them to other grades such as linerboard.
