The results of theoretical and experimental studies ofcharacteristics of slid-state ring lasers (SSRLs) operating indifferent regimes of lasing in the presence of optical nonreciprocityin the laser cavity are analysed in the context of possibleapplications of such systems in laser gyroscopy. The influence offrequency nonreciprocity Ω on the existence and stability ofstationary self-modulation lasing regimes and the characteristics oflaser radiation in these regimes is considered. We discuss differentmethods for detecting Ω, which are based on the measurement ofselfmodulation and beat frequencies, relaxation frequencies and therelevant decay rates, the ratio of mean intensities of counterpropagating waves, the modulation depth of the intensities of thesewaves, etc.
