Deming-based lean Six Sigma management as an answer to escalating hospital costs

Purpose:To explain that Deming-based Lean Six Sigma management is a better approach to control escalating hospital costs in U.S. compared to the outmoded management paradigm namely the management by objectives. Summary:Escalation of healthcare costs is a serious problem faced by the American Society. The traditional management approach is a major reason for this. Hospitals are managed using the approach management by objectives. Instead of looking for the reasons for process variations, his approach uses performance appraisals to rank the employees performance. The authors offer a professional management approach, instead to overcome this problem. (6 refs.)
