Management practices can be described as fads, fashions, or fits depending on their permanence and their effect on the using organization. TQM is discussed with reference to the breadth of its acceptance in organizations and the extent to which it has a lasting effect on the organization using it. Seeking ISO 9000 certification is seen as a major factor in the former, and the use of effective in-depth self-assessment as a major factor in the later.
