Purpose: A virtual team is. To propose a general model to investigate how cultural adaptation, communication quality, and trust affect the performance of virtual teams, namely, a network group where team members from different cultures are temporarily gathered together for the period of a task and their interaction with each other. Summary: Studies have been conducted to investigate the success of worldwide transnational teams, and to examine how such teams are designed and managed to help their organizations achieve global business strategies. There have been only few studies examining the effect of cultural diversity on virtual teams so as to integrate essential concepts of virtual teams, communication quality and trust among team members since these two variables are easy to track and analyze. Virtual teams require their members to rely on IT and trust among the members. The present study investigates how related variables affect the performance of virtual teams. The major objectives of this study are to highlight the importance of cultural factors in virtual teams and to build a model of how key factors affect the performance of virtual teams. (67 refs.)
