Winner of the Construct Award for Innovation and Best Practice

Laing O'Rouke has won the 2003 CONSTRUCT Award for Innovation and Best Practice with its innovative seamless vehicular ramps serving the car parks and Plaza at Tower Place, London. The design and construction of the ramps was praised for their innovation, buildability and value for money. The Award was presented at the Concrete Society dinner at the London Marriot Hotel on 12 November. The two ramps provide access to a below-ground public car park and access to the above-ground Plaza drop-off point whilst bridging a dual-storey height car park. All works for the construction of the spiral ramps had to be carried out under the first floor soffit of the advancing Plaza structure. This restricted head height prevented craneage access to the ramp area. In addition to this, partial release for coach access was required halfway through construction.
