Semiconductor equipment market to drop 52% in 2009

THE SEMICONDUCTOR EQUIPMENT market will decline 52% to $14.1 billion in 2009, but then grow 47% to $20.7 billion in 2010, according to trade association SEMI.The decline in 2009 follows a 32% decline in 2008 when equipment sales totaled $29.5 billion. "Spending on semiconductor manufacturing equipment this year will reach low levels experienced 15 years or so ago," says Stanley Myers, president and CEO of SEMI.
