Gerdau Ameristeel to sell 1.59 billion in shares

Gerdau Ameristeel of Tampa needs to sell shares valued at 1.59 billion to defray the cost of its acquisition of Chaparral Steel of Midlothian,Texas.Parent company Gerdau of Brazil will purchase 73.1 million shares,and an additional 36.9 million wilt be available to the public,according to a prospectus filed with the U.S.Securities and Exchange Commission and reported on by Bloomberg.
