Truckload overcapacity to linger for another year

In the long-term, overcapacity in the truckload market could be shed by 2010, pushing truckload rates up and more volumes to intermodal. But freight buyers have some time to prepare, as the short-term trends showlitde signs of a truckload market pickup. In a recent note to investors, Thomas Albrecht of Stephens Inc. said "we believe excess truckload capacity will be worked off by spring 2010, meaning that cheap truckload rates in spot and backhaul markets would have moderated."
