Potato market prices are continuing to fall in Germany and France, and the m iJutch processing quotations have also lost more ground. In Germany at least, there are doubts whether the market can now recover but it is too early to write off the Dutch processing market. There is little sign of weakness in Britain, despite a fall in last week's ex farm average price. Spanish potato prices remain much higher than at this time in recent seasons, although the market faltered in the week to March 11, and Polish prices are still rising, despite competition from imports. The physical market uncertainty has however been sufficient to trigger a heavy sell-off on the RMX Hanover futures market. As the processing contracts closed today at onlyEUR283/tonne for April and EUR319/t for May, the futures premium has already disappeared but it may take a day or two before there is any bounce. A total 874 April contracts and 261 May contracts have been traded so far this week.
