Performance metrics drive behavior of purchasing professionals who manage relationships with suppliers.The purchasing and supply chain operation at CM uses a series of hard and soft metrics to measure performance.The metrics look at how purchasing professionals work with their peers cross functionally in the company and their knowledge of suppliers and supply markets."We measure attitude and ways the individual interacts with suppliers,"says Bo Andersson,vice president of global purchasing and supply chain."It's all about developing a level of trust.Trust doesn't mean that an individual is nice,but that he or she is consistent and always available.I ask suppliers about individuals they work with in GM's purchasing organization."
