The communications equipment industry is an important driver of the semiconductor industry,accounting for about 25% of all chip revenue.Semiconductors used in wired communications equipment,including telephones,switches,fiber channel switches and routers,amounted to US14 billion in 2003,according to market researcher iSuppli.Wireless communications equipment accounted for US34 billion of semiconductor revenue in 2003.Wireless equipment includes cordless phones,mobile handsets and cell phone infrastructure such as cellular base stations.
