Aluminum: LME launches probe into spoot, futures trading

The London Metal Exchange, is investigating price movements, supply levels, trading patterns, as well as "possible collusion between market participants" in the aluminum market. The benchmark price in early August was 4% higher than June 1, and is up 10% on the year, although supplies are healthy. Concerns are that some traders were working together to squeeze prices. In June, about US94 billion worth of aluminum was traded on the LME, the world's largest metals market that processes about US2 trillion in metals trades every year.
